Song a week 2 - Human Machine

Download

I really enjoyed writing this song. The robot noises were fun and the Android joke came right at the end. I had been thinking a lot about what a computer inside your head would be like and how it might affect the way you lived your life. After drafting the song I realised that being a ‘human machine’ would not be something that I want (until Apple releases the iThought, then I’ll be all over it).

They’re coming for us all putting chips in our brain
Arthur C. Clarke wouldn’t have believed this day would come
But Google for your brain is misery
When you remember everything you see
You can’t forget, you can’t forget
Everything you’ve seen is stored in your head

I don’t want to be a human machine
I don’t want to be a computer
life is too sweet to let silicone keep
Our hearts desires on a hard disk drive

Memory fades in a beautiful way
But not in the digital future
You won’t forget where you parked your car
But neither will you mend your broken heart
You can’t forget, you can’t forget
Everything he said is stuck in your head

I don’t want to be a human machine
I don’t want to be a computer
life is too sweet to let silicone keep
Our hearts desires on a hard disk drive

Spoken: Captain, there’s one getting away
It’s OK, he’ll only last a few weeks out in the desert.
I don’t know what all the fuss is about, they should have seen it coming.
Why do you think we called it Android?

I don’t want to be a human machine
I don’t want to be a computer
life is too sweet to let silicone keep
Our hearts desires on a hard disk drive

Song a week 3 - Flutter video game music

This weeks piece of music is not technically a song but it is still musical. I composed video game music to an existing game called Flutter by Dunedin based Runaway Play. The original music to it is pretty neat as well so check out the game on Facebook here

Link to make Applescripts on website to open in script editor

I had seen websites which included a link to a open the given script in a script editor but I didn’t know how they did it. I found one way to do it here and slightly adapted their script to a make a markdown reference link. As I write this I could see this being a handy TextExpander snippet with a little more work.

Here’s my version or open this script in the Script Editor

Song a week 4 - Runaway Cowboy

Download

I really enjoyed writing this song and going to a different time period. I think I’ll rewrite this song with an older style of instrumentation. Enjoy.

The cowboy left on sunday morning
His wife went to church by herself
He didn’t give her any warning
Said his feet were itchy, he needed to ride it out

Runaway cowboy can’t stand still
Scared of being loved, scared of what you’ll build
Scared of giving everything and failing still
That’s why you keep moving

She watched him ride across the plains
With the 20 gallon hat, she bought for his birthday
Hoping that he’d turn around
Knowing that she wouldn’t see him till the snow touched the ground

Runaway cowboy can’t stand still
Scared of being loved, scared of what you’ll build
If you let someone inside
Scared of what they might find

Christmas eve on a Saturday night
5 months alone with no-one by her side
Knock at the door
Is it the one she’s been waiting for?
She opens the door, it’s the cowboy
She cries tears of pain, tears of joy
He opens his arms
But she can see he’s not ready to open his heart

Send current Safari URL to Omnifocus

I use the Safari bookmarklet for Omnifocus to add the current webpage to my Omnifocus inbox, but it is a bit slow when you don’t need to add any further notes about it. So I went and built this script based heavily on these two scripts: Safari tab list to Omnifocus and Use Applescript to open current Safari url in Google Chrome

Here’s the script for reading. Click here to open this script in the Script Editor

Song a week 5 - Welcome to life

Download

Welcome to life
You’ve got a head full of ideas
That challenge peoples fears
So don’t be surprised
If they don’t understand
Your dreams and your plans

It’ll happen again
Just like it happened before

Welcome to life on this planet
Welcome to life on this planet

You’ll have people die
See loved ones decaying
Their bodies betraying them
You’ll see babies born
See children grow to men
Repeat the cycle again

It’ll happen again
Just like it happened before

Welcome to life on this planet
You’ll come to life when you understand it
Pain and joy are part of the dance
Welcome to life in all its romance

This is life in all its fullness
Life in all its glory and pain
Take the risk cause the moment
Will soon be snatched away

You’ll find joy
Share your heart with a lover
Let them uncover your flaws
Love will be hard
To let someone in
Let them under your skin

Welcome to life on this planet
You’ll come to life when you understand it
Pain and joy are part of the dance
Welcome to life in all its romance

Song a week 6 - You’re Already In Love (You Just Don’t Know It Yet)

Download

You’re a rare flower in the Amazon
I’m a scientist trying to find the answer
Trying to unlock your secrets

You’re a mountain peak, shrouded in clouds & weather warnings
I’m a climber, just a young man trying to find the answer
Trying to unlock your secrets

You’re already in love you just don’t know it yet
You’re already in love
You’re already in love you just don’t know it yet
You’re already in love

You’re an atom, so much potential inside you
I’m a nuclear physicist, searching for the answer
Trying to unlock your secrets

You’re a wooden box with no apparent openings
I’m a traveller, in a second hand store that’s close to closing
Searching for the answer, trying to unlock your secrets

You’re already in love you just don’t know it yet
You’re already in love
You’re already in love you just don’t know it yet
You’re already in love

Listen to your closest friends
They can see it too
And you know it
You just don’t want to say

Listen to your pounding heart
It’s beating for a reason and you know it
You just don’t want to say

Listen to your pounding heart
It’s beating for a reason and you know it
You just don’t want to say
I love you.
