Spark opens a new $60m data centre in Auckland →
I missed this when it came out, Spark recently opened a new data centre to support their cloud computing efforts. Their website doesn’t make it particularly clear what these are, but it’s probably safe to assume it will be some combination of virtual machines from VMWare, OpenStack, and managed services. From the article:
Spark Digital chief executive Tim Miles said the facility could house enough computer servers to run 10 personal websites for every New Zealander, although its main purpose is to house computer systems or run systems in “the cloud” for business clients.
Probably a good idea to focus on businesses, I’m not sure that the market for New Zealanders running 10 personal websites each is quite there yet.
